When Grease Monkey approached Storey Creative, they needed a powerful visual system to communicate their “Pit Crew Guarantee” — a promise of fast, friendly, and reliable service. The goal: boost customer trust, promote brand consistency, and increase franchise-level adoption of the badge across digital and in‑garage environments.

Brief

In 2015, back when I still designed branding projects, I was contacted by Grease Monkey to design a new badge that identified a new program they were starting. Qualifying teams would display this badge to signify they were able to serve a client in super speedy time (like the pit crew at a racing event).

The goal: boost customer trust, promote brand consistency, and increase franchise-level adoption of the badge across digital and in‑garage environments.

Strategic Approach

We began by researching how professional pit crews visually affirm reliability and precision. Inspired by motorsport iconography — think badges, shields, and speed cues — we crafted a suite of graphic lockups. The key elements:

  • A bold, circular badge form evoking dashboard dials
  • A vibrant “guarantee” ribbon anchored by Grease Monkey’s signature orange
  • Clean typography that balanced legibility with attitude

Creative Execution

Our final designs included multiple lockups:

  • Primary badge for digital headers and vehicle wraps
  • Secondary variants optimized for garage point-of-sale and service bays Color flexibility ensured visibility in diverse settings, prioritized accessibility, and retained fidelity at all sizes — from stickers to wall graphics.

What were the results?

The Pit Crew Guarantee badge is now a trademarked graphic for Grease Monkey and used nationwide to show a location will pay you $1 for every minute they go over their scheduled service time.
