We began by diving deep into educational content strategy, ensuring that every page of the guide served a purpose. That meant mapping out the full scope of U.S. election mechanics—from how voting works at the federal, state, and local levels, to the roles elected officials play, to key deadlines and voter protections.
Our research process drew from trusted sources like the Federal Election Commission, local boards of election, and leading civic education organizations. We synthesized all of this information to strike the right balance: informative but digestible, thorough but never overwhelming.
The result was a guide that simplified complex civic concepts without dumbing them down—meeting readers where they are and helping them feel confident in how their government works and how to make their voices heard.
Designed to empower, not overwhelm
Once the content was shaped, our focus shifted to design. The final piece needed to be visually approachable, youth-friendly, and inclusive—without feeling childish or oversimplified. We chose a bold, optimistic palette and a modular layout system that made the content easy to scan and explore. Iconography and infographics brought the material to life, helping readers grasp timelines, procedures, and roles at a glance.
We also paid careful attention to accessibility—from contrast ratios to font choices—so the guide would be usable across devices and for readers with a range of abilities.
